INTRODUCTION There are many good reasons to shop on the internet. The selection is astounding. The convenience is special. The savings are surprising. My name is Joanne Shaw. I'm an author and singer, among other things. I used to be in computer science. I majored in Computer Science at University well before the internet was around. I was hired by the dean of Computer Science to teach a lab portion of a Computer Science University class, where and I worked at IBM -- before I quite to become a writer. I still love computers and its a hobby and a venture. I want to show you something I discovered on the internet. A lot of people are "making" money on the internet. But, have you ever thought about "saving" money on the internet. You can cut your real expenses down to a tenth, I am sure. Anyone can save so much money to the point that it is as good as extra income. On this website you can find savings beyond words. Up to 75% discounts of 11,000 famous brand perfumes. Brand new, designer sports bras for $5 (five dollars). Ever thought that you save on prescription eye glasses. Designer brand prescription glasses are $34 -- including the lenses! All you have to do is type in your written prescription online and pay for them, and your new glasses are mailed to you. Save on televisions, electronics, skis. It's not all about savings, though. You can get a lot more for your money of wonderful things you can afford, when you purchase.. You can find items from anywhere in the world. Buying something authentic is very stylish. You have to buy towels anyway. Why not buy them from The United States or Australia Or you need a blanket or chess set. Why not buy a Mexican blanket or marble chess set, without traveling there. Live with quality. You can buy European clothing right from a website of a store in Paris or London. Or paper from Greece or Maple Syrup from Canada. If they make it, you can find it on the internet. Do you have to pay duty? Yes, likely. So be prepared to add that to your cost. But in my experience it is not very much money at all, and is well worth it. I'm not equipped to tell you the exact laws. Customs will either apply it or not apply it, and they will answer your questions too, and you might have to pay something at the post office when you pick up your parcels. It is so much fun shopping over the internet. You order something online and then it kind of builds character waiting for your packages to arrive in the mail. You can learn to plan your purchases. But the new prices are very noticeable, and you will be very happy. It's a priceless convenience shopping through this website. Each item you find on this website, will send you directly to either the manufacturer's or retailers websites. I tried to pick out some interesting shops for you. I don't handle the products or inventory in any way. I just collect nifty stores and put them in one place for you. You relate to the stores directly. All of them have websites and methods for doing transactions that are very easy to use. How do you pay for it is a good question. Often by credit card. You can often mail them a check too, if you are patient enough, but the former is notably more convenient and instant. I want to bring this up: some are worried over purchasing over the internet by credit card. They are worried about the security. I have never had a problem shopping over the internet. You can usually talk to or email the sellers if you want to as well. If something does happen, you can always call the police or sue them in a court of law. Some are not concerned at all and use credit cards online all the time. However, I want to give you some tips or some advice. I want to tell you how to pay without using your credit card. People are fairly ratios and things are monitored, but bad things can happen. Do right down the names of the websites wherever you buy things. It's pretty safe; most people are not criminals. But the internet world is monitored pretty carefully to prevent fraud. It's much more likely that you run into a person operating a store, than committing fraud. The same laws apply as if a real person is doing business in person. But you never know. There are a couple things you can do to protect yourself. You can use a prepaid credit card, so if they rack it up, they will wipe out whatever you deposited onto the card... Not your entire credit limit which you or they will owe the card company. Okay, a better solution is what I call a disposable or temporary credit card. They are great. That's not what they are called, though. They are often called gift cards. Not everyone can get a credit card, either. One can use prepaid credit cards that you load and keep the same card time after time. Or you can buy a temporary disposable gift card that you use until the money runs out, and then get a new one with an entirely different credit card number. Then if someone does misuse your card number, they really can't do very much damage. You can buy master card or visa cards at various convenience stores or grocery stores. They are marvelous!!! You purchase them in whatever denomination that you want, $25, $50 even $200 or more. Then you pay a one time small fee only, when you buy it. Its not very much, considering you don't wrack up your credit cards or pay interest. It can be a very responsible way to spend by credit card, because your purchases are planned, too. The fee is about $2.50 on a $25 dollar card. Or $5.00 on a $50 card. So you pay $55 at the grocery store and you have bought a credit card with $50 credit on it. And you can use it wherever you can use credit cards. They activate the card at the store at the time you buy it, but you have to "register" your card later, online, before you can use to buy anything over the internet. It takes about 5 minutes. It is not hard, but it takes a good 5 minutes. And you don't have a choice. But then you have a working credit card without as much risk of losing any money to fraud, or leaving personal credit card information to a deviant store owner. Once you spend the $50 or the $200, etc, the card is done, ready for the garbage, never used again. And you buy a new one for your next purchases. To register a card, you visit the credit card company's website written on the back of the card and type in your card number then what the point is to type in your name and address, so then when you use the card and it asks for name and address, you use that exactly as you spelled it. When you purchase with the card, and they ask for your credit card number, you have to type in your name and address exactly as you have it typed when you registered it, with hyphens in the right place and all the words in the right case. Another option is creating a free account with a company called Paypal or paypal.com. Paypal deals between customers and businesses. You set up a free Paypal account (it takes a couple days before you can use it; you can use your disposable gift card right away.) Many businesses online accept Paypal. Paypal has your bank information or credit card information and you don't give it to the businesses, only to Paypal. Paypal also has their information for business collecting money through Paypal. So, there are a lot of security benefits of using Paypal. You can collect money from customers with a Paypal account as well. You can also "dispute" through Paypal any business deals that go wrong. But the point is the only Paypal sees your bank information. The stores don't ever get to see it. They charge small fees when you purchase through Paypal but there are no upfront fees. It's free to set up and start using your account. I think the gift cards are a wise way to go, and a really good idea when a company does not use Paypal but accepts credit cards. The choice is yours. You might feel comfortable using your traditional credit card. Then you're free to go. Shopping is at your keyboard finger tips. You will not be disappointed. Use your common sense. Talk to the owners if need be. They are almost always people. Things can happen. But I believe you will find the internet to be a safe place to shop overall. That little bit of trouble is well worth the time it takes so that you can routinely shop over the internet. You will enjoy it. Shopping is not for everyone. But we all kind of love and hate the same aspects of it. Not finding what you're looking for is a big complaint. That won't happen here. You don't have to find parking, pain your tired feet walking through malls. You don't have to talk to a soul! If I had it my way, when it comes to shopping, everything would either come from the internet or come from a vending machine. Cheers! Enjoy your new luck.
